Where does this ground wire go?

Took out the starter in my son's 2008 Pontiac G6 GT 3.5 - to test it. It tested well, so I'm reinstalling it. Only wires in the vicinity: positive from battery to starter, ignition plug into starter, and this ground wire (next to arrow in 2nd picture)...but I have no idea where it goes. Possibly wasn't even connected prior to me taking the starter out - I don't remember disconnecting it. It's around 3" long, no slack, green/black. It can't reach the starter's mounting bolts (wouldn't fit around the bolts anyway). I can't find it on any schematic and YouTube isn't showing much. There isn't anything visible that it would mount to. Any ideas? Thanks in advance!

In the videos and schematics I have seen there are two wires that go to the starter motor battery post as well as a separate connection for the starter signal. If you have accounted for those wires, I guess you know it probably wasn't from the starter motor.

Maybe others will have better answers :)

Yep, you were correct! Found out it's the fusible link. So battery to starter, starter to alternator. I connected the fusible link wire (what I thought was a ground 🤦‍♂️) along with the power wire from battery on the starter battery post and it works correctly. Thanks!

Nice and oily underneath, just like my '06... lol. Helps keep the rust at bay.

LOL - yep! Turns out there's either a rod or bearing issue so the motor is toast 😥. Gonna sell as a parts car, unfortunately.
