Why does the Charger 3.5 put out 250 when the G6 3.5 only puts out 220?

My first post! :beer:

Had a v6 3.5 charger that was fun around town but it was heavy as hell and the 250 hp lost a lot going to the wheels down to 180 I think.

Why is our 3.5 G6 only 220? And what is it at the wheels?

Because Chrysler uses an overhead cam, 24-valve design where ours is overhead 12 valve. You don't get to play with that extra torque and horsepower from the extra valves until the engine gets wound up above 3000 or so RPM.

We get somewhere in the 180s at the wheels.

just as a little side note (incase it doesnt make sense cause i used to not get it when i was first into cars) more valves = more air coming in and easier to push out = engine breaths better = more hp

So it works to about the same at the wheels but the g6 is lighter so its a win for the G6?!

Thanks that helps a lot. Can we use "oversized" valves to make some of that extra-ness up?
not sure what you mean by "extra-ness" haha, but an oversized valve refers to the valve stem, being that if your valve guide is too large, you could buy an oversized valve instead of machining the head, although few companies make o.s. valves, so in most cases the head would need to be machined.

Ha, reading that back it wasn't so clear. So by "extra-ness" i ment is there a way to make up for the the 12 valves compared to the 24 valves.

So, oversized valves just means longer and not bigger, wider, or 'portered', *not sure if that applies, inlet or exhaust valve.
oversized valves have a wider valve stem, not a wider valve face. and you cant make up for the valves by doing anything to the valves. to help it breath better you would have to do intake/exhaust manifold, which, i havnt look into for the G6 yet.
Ok thanks. I've been look for both P&P intake/exhaust manifolds but no luck yet. I think those have done it have done it them selfs or had a machinist/mechanic do a P&P for them.
just dump play sand into the gas tank... that'll port it... then on the next tank you dump in talcum powder... that takes care of the polishing. LOL

Damn it! I didn't see the "lol" part and my car blew up. :eek: ha but sadly I kinda wish that would work.
