Gee6er....me too! I know what you mean. I'm used the Grand Am community where people do engine swaps, forced induction, manual swaps, and all kinds of good stuff. G6 world is...ummm....less hardcore lol. I can't get over how much plastidip I see, and people thinks it's the sh*t... I owned a Getrag F40 trans before I ever bought the G6.

I don't think many people know that LS1 pistons will fit in the 3900 with less than .010 boring. We have 1.7 rockers already. The cam bearings can be custom ordered in "shimmed" size to fit a regular non-VVT 60* cam in the LZ block. This of course requires deleting the VVT function, but with the proven power gains from aftermarket cams, who cares about that cam phaser. IMO, it wouldn't be reliable under a high valvetrain load. I don't know that for sure but it seems to me...

And did you know Spec makes a clutch to fit the F40 with the L36/67 engines? Imagine a 3800SC G6 w/ 6-speed!

I have the 2.4 4cyl in my G6, and my plans include supercharging and getting a nice bit of power from it, nothing over the top though... after all it is front wheel drive, haha.
This might sound crazy, but you can get 1000 HP from that engine, without a turbo even. GMPerformance did it to a cavalier. Can't wait to see what you come up with! Idk where you are, but a shop known as Evan's Tuning right here in PA built a cavalier that hit 167 mph in the 1/4 mile. And that particular run, the engine blew way before the line so it should have hit like 180+

Yea I saw that posted on their site...must be a wicked car.

Manual conversion isn't as hard as you might think. Pretty sure that Getrag F35 is the designation of the Cobalt/Ion trans you would want. Your G6 has a weight advantage over mine too, btw. With quarter tank of fuel and otherwise empty car, mine weighs in at 3460 according to the scale at the scrap place I go sometimes. I don't like how heavy G6's are, but they are basically luxury cars, so pick one or the other:D

Won't affect ABS/TC. It is it's own standalone system, and operates from the wheel speed sensors rather than the VSS that is hooked up to the PCM. As far as tuning for 'not looking for the transmission', this is a simple matter of deleting any present DTC's once swap is done. I've heard of cases where cars won't idle quite right after a manual conversion, but since the 2.4 is available w/ manual in other cars, the tune could be applied to yours if necessary. When I completed my GAGT 3400 manual conversion, I had no idling problems at all, car ran as if it always had a manual attached to it.

A few more tit-bits....(yes I'm very pro-manual!)

Cobalt/Ion shifter assembly will bolt to the floor of the G6 using the the 4 studs that are already there for your existing shifter.

Your pass. side axle will most likely be a direct fit to the manual trans. If you do need to change the driver side axle to male style inner CV, it is already available in a manual G6.

For the F35 trans, performance clutches and LSD's are available.

Since G6's are available w/ manual, there is already a clutch pedal/bracket available. As for the hydraulic system, use parts from the car you got the trans from. Even though the G6 master cyl. would surely work, you would want to verify that the two different cars have the same cyl. i.d. for correct pedal feel and modulation.

The VSS should be plug and play, although will need calibrated due to different FDR between transmissions.

When performing a manual swap, you can choose to wire it up to push the clutch in to start car(like factory manuals) or not need to. I chose not to for my GA.

kinda pricey...I didn't even know until just now that the Cobalt SS is available with a limited slip trans(2.0 SC motor from what I saw). Ecotec's all share the same bell housing so it should fit.

I wouldn't have bought my G6 unless it was manual. I was looking at things like Mazda 6, Legacy 2.5i, Passat, even the supercharged Mazda Millenia S...all manuals. Then I found my G6.
