Don't judge me by my screen name. I am a Mopar guy but my father has his share of Pontiacs and my wife and I bought a 2008 G6 GT Convertible last October. She loves it and has always wanted a convertible!

Welcome and Congrats!

We ALL love our 6'ers :D

Dillon
The verts are awesomesauce!!!!!!
I wanted one soooo bad but couldnt find one in an electric blue.

They made a couple of them in 06 but you couldnt order them in that color.

Back in 2005 when I ordered mine there were no Verts yet....and the GT was the top of the line!!

People forget that. lol

anyways....welcome!!! What color is it? I know its not orange!

No Mopar hate here! Thats American Muscle!!!

Her's is the maroon color (don't know the official Pontiac name for it). I do have a question though. Since the car has 18's on it, I was wondering if a 15" rim will fit for winter time so I don't have to buy the extremely expensive 18" winters. Can anybody shed some light on this?
Its the same bolt pattern. All the G6 wheels will fit....and then some!
How about the suspension and brakes on the convertible compared to the others G6 models. Are there any important differences to take into account? I want to make sure the calipers won't hit and make sure to get the proper offset so that the tires won't hit the spring perches.
Convertibles suck and their owners are worse :p

Oh hi.

Can't give a specific answer to your question but I would think you'd be OK as I'm guessing they just put the bigger rims on the same brake setup. Maybe check with the fine folks at Discount Tire on here :)

Thanks for the warm welcome Droptop.:D I didn't relize they were a sponser on here I might have to do that!
Glad you took it as intended

Unfortunately it rained this afternoon when we were out so had to keep the hardtop look, but definitely have been taking advantage of teh convertibleness as much as possible lately :D

I put 16 inch steel rims with goodyear snow tires on.G6 is great on snow and ice.I had a b it of a runaround getting it figured but there is room around the calipers and have had no tire rub.The higher profile 16" tires give it a little better ride too.BTW just back from a drop top cruise.

Reg,

Did you end up getting 16" G6 steelies from a junkyard? Also what final tire size did you go with? Ex: 215/60/16 sound about right or did you go with something else? She already went one year with the stock tires on the 18's and it is far from good here in western PA.
I bought them new, cost me 64 bucks Canadian each,I had a look at the wreckers around here and couldn't find a decent set of 4.Tires are215/60R16.The car is really stable with winter tires more so than my Ford Exploder(on all seasons)We get some pretty heavy snowin and blowin and the G6 is the car a take if I'm traveling any distance in the white crap.
Interesting that G6 > SUV (even if it is a Ford :p)

yeah 'cause ford epically fails. the best cars that they ever had come off their assembly line were Model A's and the first Thunderbirds....lmao :bandit:
DON'T hate on FORD! :D

Before my G6 I had one of the best, nicest, and reliable F-150 around. Fully loaded with a lot of goodies put on her. I still have her. She gave me 237xxx+ but I'm having problems with the transmission due to me installing a cheap ass intake from eBay on it. I miss it but I LOVE MY G6! I ran the balls out of her too. Its a win win situation!

Now I will just have to see if the only Pontiac dealer in the area can get them. If not I guess I could go to a Chevy dealer. Then again there is a huge salvage yard right down the road from me so I will see what they have. Thanks for the info. BTW I didn't know you could get the convertible with the 3.9 (saw in your sig). I feel the 3.5 lacks power for the heavier convertible.

The 3.9 is derated to 227 horse on th:confused:e convertible, don;t know how or why,as the 3.9 in the coupe or sedan I believe is 240 horse. With CRABs I must be up at least to 235 or so,it's pretty peppy and the intake has areal snarl to it.Its a good thing I'm an old fart cause if I had this kind of car when I was younger I might still be paying off tickets.
Because of the bracing needed underneath the convertible, the exhaust had to be modified to be extra narrow in certain areas, further robbing what little power is available

With the GT-R exhaust you need several spacers in certain sections to allow the braces to fit, as shown below:

I thought on the test drive the power was fine but when you get into a passing situation especially on a 2 lane road, it just doesn't have the balls I expected it to have. I've found myself in situations where I'd like to get around somebody but just didn't have faith to do it safely. My dad's 07 Grand Prix has the 3800 engine and it would walk circles around the G6 unfortunately.

The "ticket car" in the fleet is my Orange Blast Neon SRT-4. (Hence the screen name) Luckily I've only got 1 ticket in the four years I've owned it.
