I was wonder if I could some how fit a LS1 5.7L Engine into a 2006 Pontiac G6? I know it is a Front will drive vehicle but it has to be possible.

If you really want that fast a car why did u buy the G6?

Im not trying to be mean...I just dont understand why people want to dump more money into a car than it would cost to go out and buy a GTO...
Thanks for the Rely. The reason I got the G6 is that I loved the look. The GTO does not represent what I remembered what it use to look like, As in the Challenger and the Charger and soon the Camero. I have plenty of money to dump into it I was just wondering because I was handed this engine from a GTO and was wondering if it would fit. So if any one else knows if I can that would be great or where I can find that answer.
If you have enough money you can do anything you want... I have seen a gran am with a V8 and it had been converted to rear wheel drive... so it is possible. but the whole money thing comes in. and if you want the LS1 why not the LS7... 7.0 liter with 505 hp. that would be sweet!

The 5.7L LS1 will not fit in the G6 engine compartment. The better alternative would be to try the 5.3L V8 from the Grand Prix GXP. It is configured for FWD already.
If I were you I'd trade my G6 in and get the GTO. Just seems more logical than doing a whole engine swap and converting to the rear.

Thanks, I looked at it and it really does make more sense.

I know where your coming from, but as I stated earlier I don't like the look of the GTO. I really love the look of my G6.
Yeah the look of the G6s are real nice, but hey, GTO's are real nice too. To be honest with you, I would much rather have a GTO.

The word "sleeper" comes to mind!
lol, just buy a G8. Love the looks of it, but about twice the price i paid for my G6
Performance Clutch?

Does anybody know where to get a performance clutch for the 3.9L G6? I have searched everywhere and have been completely unable to find an aftermarket clutch. I would like to get a stage 2 or 3 in ceramic if anybody makes one. I am guessing that they have discontinued the 6 speed and I hope this doesn't mean that there will never be performance parts offered. Any leads would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
ls1 in a g6, that would be sweet. i was actually thinking of that the other day. i have a 98 z28 m6 and my wife has an 06 g6. but if you go with the 5.3, you can still do a lot to the motor.
Has anyone ever done a swap with the 5.3L LS4? I've been looking into it and it seems as close as I could get to a perfect matching V8. Also, does anyone know if there's a place to by that 5.3 motor new?
You would go through so many tires if you left it front wheel drive.
Would you even be able to convert an LS1 to FWD? If not, then you would have a ton of modifications to make a G6 RWD.

Projects like this are always possible, if you want to spend $10,000 just to get it done. More than likely though, you would end up with a junked car that is halfway torn apart, and completely useless.
hey guys i would really like to customize my pontiac g6 v6 3.5 2006 i have this one question is it possible to put in a 3.9 v6 engine and manual trans from pontiac gxp into mine?? i would really appreciate it and if you could tell me of some sites where i can get these engines.....
Approaching this from a non bias point of view. I would think with enough modification to the sub frame (For engine mounts) You may be able to fit the engine, the transmission may be a problem though. If you gut the G6, pull the motor trans, exhaust. You do have some what of a good tunnel to run a driveshaft, but not much room for a tranny to sit. I'm pretty sure the bell housing would just sit against the firewall. At that point I'm not even sure if the front of the car will even clear the motor. You might be getting into custom radiators or a relocation as well as firewall work.

So lets say you can fit the motor and trans in, or they will fit (I'm not sure how big the LS1 is with a trans but judging by google images it's pretty big). Once you get the drive shaft in place you'll have to find some kind of rear sub frame built to handle the power and torque while holding a differential in place. You may be able to get that off the saab 9-3 which is built off of the same platform, But saab did change it up quite a bit so it may not be a complete bolt up. At this point you would have the relocate the fuel tank to make room for the drive-shaft.

After that's all figured out I'm not sure how you would run the exhaust. The tunnel is now housing a drive-shaft, either run the exhaust really close to it or risk scrapping it running it elsewhere.

Just telling you from a point of veiw in having heavily modding cars in the past, the swap you want to do just isn't worth the time/money. Parts alone would easily take you over ten grand. It's more than just a motor swap, there's a new trans needed, drive shaft, and rear end. What would you do, live axle or IRS? What computer would you get to run the motor? Would it then run your factory gauges?

Other parts to consider would be upgraded brakes, bigger tires, stronger suspension to hold the extra weight, custom headers and catback, and we haven't even touched all the modding needed to be done.

You'd be better off doing this for the G6 if you really want to keep it and make it fast... If you have the 3.5 litre, look into the forged internals that are available for it. Swap the crank, rods, pistons, cam, pushrods and rockers for upgraded parts, throw a custom turbo kit on, find a good transmission shop to build up the trans and get a tune from someone like Chris White. It will be cheaper and there will be minimum modding needed.

Or, sell the G6 a and start with a V8 platform like a Camaro or Mustang. Just my .02
