Just thought to let you people know who needs winter tires ....http://www.tirerack.com/ has the best deals around, even if you don't have no idea which tires are for your car ..they have recomended set/ sizes for each car.

Anyway I am getting this week 4 tires and rims for my G6 GT 2005 for total $771.52 deliverd home and ready to mount.

4 16x6.5 MSW Type 15 Silver In Stock $86.00 $344.00
20 Required lugnut for vehicle In Stock N/C N/C
4 P215/60R-16 Goodyear Ultra Grip Ice In Stock $86.00 $344.00
4 Mount and Balance (No Charge) N/C N/C
1 Griot's wheel care sample kit In Stock N/C N/C

The original all season tires are BAD ...they slip like crazy. One thing I can say is the cheapest snow tires are better from most expensive all season tires.

I have for my other car (99 Grand Marquis "Interceptor") KUMHO KW11 snow tires ....have 4 seasons on them and still left at least 2 more winters, you know what is the best part ....SNOW PLOW FOLLOWS MY TRACKS (with a 50lb. sand bag in trunk)

Update: just added another TANK to my fleet ...Ford Crown Victoria LX Sport, sorry to say but Pontiac G6 GT sucks :( comparing to Crown Vic P74

Would 16x7 rims work on a G6 GT? I was thinking about permanently switching to 16's with good all seasons (more tire selection and lower cost). Or keeping the stock 17s for the summer (UHP all seasons) and buy new 16s (w/winter tires) for the winter months. I just bought a new home so I can't spend too much on the car.
Yes, 16 x 7 will work.

You can get steel rims for winter at tirerack for $55each, you will definitely save in long run having (2) sets vs. mounting every season summer/ winter tires on one set of rims. Plus as you said 16" are cheaper and better for winter vs 17" tires ...while 17" tires are much better for summer/ performance.

I just loked at tirerack:

16x7 Sport Edition F2 Silver Painted
for 2005 Pontiac G6 Sedan (4)x $69 =$276

215/60R16 Firestone Winterforce Blackwall Firestone Winterforce
for 2005 Pontiac G6 Sedan (4)x $69 =$276

TOTAL to your door ready for you to bolt on $552 +$73.62 shipping =$625.62

Good Luck

Original all season tires on my G6 are terrible for rain/ snow ...

Seasonal tires are way to go if you have room for storage, I ran out of storage room for my 3rd (Crown Victoria) car so I got myself ultra high performance all season tires 'Fierce Instinct ZR' with 30k service life ....so far they are holding on rain like it's dry ...but I'm sure that wont be the case in snow ?!

Anyhow ...last feb. here in Chicago-land we got hit with nice blizzard ...guess who was the only maniac at 6am on road? ..me :) ...and snowplows ...I was laughing like crazy to people in SUV's out in ditch while I was cruising in G6 :)

Tirerack will mount and balance the tires for me, once this is done, would I be able to put them on the car myself, or are there additional measures that need to be taken that a tire shop would be better suited to handle?

Thank you in advance for all your help!!
There is nothing to it ...just bolt them on.
