Can you snap a picture of what your talking about?
they are a since to get off with a gear puller. I used a 3" gear puller i beleive. they popped right off. they make a tool to get them off which is called a wiper arm removal tool, but it cost like 30 dollars and all it is is a small gear puller. I hope this helps. I got it fixed.lol....I tried to take mine off to powdercoat them cause they are starting to look like crap but I couldnt get them off either. let me know if you figure that part out.
You don't need a gear puller. It's spring tensioned so if you keep working at it by pushing down on the arm where it first bends and lifting up where you just took the nut off while jiggling a bit, it will eventually come off.lol....I tried to take mine off to powdercoat them cause they are starting to look like crap but I couldnt get them off either. let me know if you figure that part out.
No need to hammer them back on - They go back on pretty easy as long as you have them lined up the right way.Do you have to hammer them back on once you gear pull them??
I bought a whole wiper transmission assembly at a local junkyard (http://www.benwoodautoparts.com/) with a 6 month warranty for $35.00.ughh same thing happen to me took it all apart and that little plastic part that slips over the ball joint on the wiper motor was worn to the point where i would put it on and it would pop right back off. So where did you guys get the replacement part? did you get the whole assembly from GM? Really bugging me that i would need to buy the whole assembly for one little worn plastic part!
Yes, number 8 in the photo you posted should be all you need. That is the wiper assembly. I guess i need to buy all of the Transmission (number 8, in picture) It cost $73.65. Seems like a lot for a piece of plastic!
Jonny, yes that is a scary thing to have happen. Glad you're ok.I have an 05, 70k, and it just happened to me yesterday...during a T-storm...on the Interstate...I nearly caused a 50 car pileup! So, if you know someone who knows how to install them then I would just take $50 and buy a new one and install it. Trust me, it is a pretty frighting experience going 70mph during a bad storm and your wipers go out.
Do you have a part # for that? I called GM and they said it was like $136.00 and that was with no motor not that i need a motor but they made it seem like that was the only option and it was $136.00 for the same part you guys seem to be talking about. That is the wiper assembly. I guess i need to buy all of the Transmission (number 8, in picture) It cost $73.65. Seems like a lot for a piece of plastic!
Just wanted to say thanks and that I used the same guy you did and had it delivered! So, I decided to save a buck and have my "mechanic" friend do the job for me and what does he do??? He cracks my windshield!!! Apparently he was using a prybar to pry off the arm...using the windshield as a wedge...genius...and just cracked the windshield. Cracked windshield but Im able to use wiper blades to this day haha. Oh well. Anyways, thanks again!!Jonny, yes that is a scary thing to have happen. Glad you're ok.
Call your local junkyard and see if they have the part used, but with a warranty. If you have another vehicle to drive and can wait for the part you may want to try where I got my replacement. http://www.benwoodautoparts.com/
It's really not that difficult of a job to do once you get into it.
