so here is the deal I can drive at lower speeds push on the break and the car is like new. but when I 50+ mph there is a slitght shake and then when I step on the break. holy hell you better hang on to the wheel. feels like my tires are moving side to side. think it might be time of new tie rod ends. if this seems to be the case from other knowlege. what are the part numbers or where woul you purchase the at. looking to get this fixed asap.

I had the same issue when I first got my G6.

Mine was brakes though. New pads all the way around and I was peachy-keen.

Shortly after that I noticed my car was really loud at high speeds. Got it checked out, was a wheel bearing, replaced and back to quiet.

I'm not much of a mechanic (not even close), but mine was the same way, just because my pads needed to be replaced. Low speeds, perfect, High speeds, it was like being in a dryer, steering wheel would shake like mad, loud, everything rattled, was scary!

When was the last time you checked your brakes?

Just because there are no noticable to the eye grooves or ridges to the rotors doesn't mean that they're not warped. Take a dial indicator too them and see if there is any fluctuation there. I am willing to bet it's 2 different things, Braking I would look into rotors, normal driving I would look into balancing the tires.

Your rotors are warped. Even if they look ok I guarantee they are warped.

Put aftermarket rotors on and some quality ceramic pads like from NAPA, not auto zone or any where like that.
Here is R1's web site.

By the time you fool around with stock replacement from dealer or auto zone it is more cost effective to buy quality parts for a little extra money.

My experience with this prob...

I have been dealing with this for a while now. I figured it was the tires out of balance. But now after having them balanced 3 times @ discount tire, I decided to have a look and discovered the my lower balls joint were BAD. Advance Auto only has the Dorman control arms (that come with all new bushings and ball joint) for each side. They were $103 a piece. Currently I am working on the engine cradle/subframe bushings(THEY ARE A PAIN IN THE A#$). After those are done, my baby will be riding like new after an alignment of course. I hope to God I am not 100yrs old by the time I get finished with these!

I have similar issues but I do not have the same braking issues. I've taken it to the dealer over 6 times? And they have checked the rotors, balanced the tires, rotated the tires and I've even been told its the road I'm driving on and it's how the is Suposed to handle. About 60 mph I get peddle and steering wheel feed back and if I brake hard the steering feed back is stronger. I have hard time believing its how this car is and I have driven these same high way in my lifted jeep without any issues.

I think this is def the rotors! I just bought my G6 on the 18th it did exactly the same thing! I took it the very next day put new front rotors on it and it the shake is completely gone. The guy told me when I went to look at it that it had a "brake thing" but becuz I never left the parking lot when I test drove it I didnt feel it. Then I bought it and drove it 3 hours home on the highway and I freaked out! I had never felt rotors that bad and thought for sure it had to be something far worse but it wasnt.

First, it may very well be the rotors. When replacing rotors get good ones. I would suggest R1 concepts or NAPA. Make sure the rotors are not made in China or Mexico and do not use the ones from dealership. The reason is that some rotors are made of substandard metal and are not very thick.

Second, don't forget about the rear rotors, hub bearings and check all calipers for sticking. A caliper sticking may not cause the car to pull to one side as the rotor may just be riding with slightly too much pressure on the rotor, thus heating it up.

I read in a post a while back of an individual who had all things mentioned changed including balance and rotation of tires.

Remember, tires have belts and sometimes they break loos in the tire and can cause vibration under hard breaking or at certain speeds.

Hope this helps.

Even if a sticking caliper is on the front or the rear, it will still create an abnormal amount of drag on the vehicle. Sometimes it can feel like u have ur brakes on right after u take ur foot off of the gas pedal. In ur case, it wouldn't hurt a thing to put some new pads and rotors on the ol' G6. So go on and spoil that ride...she'll thank u later. Lol. (Sorry I have been up late replacing the radiator in mine til 5am...weird mood) ;) haha.

I finally had a chance to take it to a reputable shop today and I wasn't happy that the dealer did not pickup any of the issues this shop showed me when it was under warranty.

- All of you were correct, the front rotors were warped. Front slotted rotors and pad $475. Rear slotted rotors and pads $355
- One tire was warn uneven. I rotate tires every 3k miles and my g6 only has 25k miles. All new tires $600
- one wheel was bent. The factory replacement wheel was $375!

Plus labor and I need to replace exhaust.

Performance shop quoted me $2500 for everything, but with better tires and all new aftermarket wheels.
